 Raisins

California raisins
came about as a fortunate accident. When a hot spell in 1873
caused grapes to wither on the vine, one California grocer
decided to capitalize on the apparent misfortune of grape
growers and offered the dried fruit as a "Peruvian Delicacy."
The rest is history.
Much of the credit
for producing such wonderful raisins in the central valley
of California is due to Armenian immigrants who came to America
in the late 1800's. Armenians are renowned for their viticulture
expertise, and they brought with them the knowledge and ability
to grow the best grapes in the world. Many Armenian growers
continue to farm the central valley to this day.
